Location strategy and prioritisation of new sites for dining chain Nando’s

Javelin Group was engaged by senior management at casual dining chain Nando’s to provide a ‘scientific’ and customer-focussed approach to location analysis to support UK growth.

Project

Deep analytics were deployed to understand customer, store and catchment dynamics to deliver a clear evaluation of restaurant performance drivers across the existing portfolio. Following this, Javelin Group developed a robust approach to predict restaurant performance, through non-linear regression modelling combined with categorical overlays, to reflect the full spectrum of location types in which Nando’s successfully trades.

Outputs

Having first applied the modelling approach to existing Nando’s sites (to validate and identify investment priorities), a suitable universe of potential ‘lookalike’ venues was identified for potential future roll-out.

Benefits

Sales, profit and impact analysis was undertaken on each potential site to deliver both a long list of possible new venues and a recommendation on the optimised future shape of chain for Nando’s.
