de Bijenkorf launches new high performance, multi-device ecommerce website, developed by Javelin Group.

de_bijenkorf_websiteLondon, 10 December 2013. Leading Dutch department store retail chain, de Bijenkorf, has seen a 50% increase in site performance following the launch of its new omni-channel website, developed by Javelin Group.

To support increasing online sales, with very high numbers of transactions around peak sales times (such as the three crazy day sales) as well as future growth across all channels, de Bijenkorf chose Javelin Group, Europe’s leading ecommerce consultancy and systems integrator, as its omni-channel systems integration partner.

Javelin Group implemented Intershop 7 for its proven robust and scalable architecture, its functionality, and its easy integration into de Bijenkorf’s existing environment.

This large scale implementation involved integration with all of de Bijenkorf’s front and backend systems and processes including search, navigation and merchandising cloud services, PIM, content management, multi-channel payment gateway and ERP systems. To integrate this highly scalable multi-device site into backend systems, Javelin Group developed a bespoke Order Management System that funnels all ecommerce channel orders into fulfilment operations including third party drop shippers.

To enhance the customer experience across all channels and drive sales, all channels are uniquely integrated with a single checkout design offering a shared basket across all devices. This allows customers to shop seamlessly across channel specific optimised sites for desktop, tablet and mobile. For the ultimate in-store experience, customers can access the entire range and order in-store via tablets offering POS terminal payment options, in addition to all web payment options.

In addition, the new solution offers a centrally managed multi-channel promotions engine, with enterprise loyalty schemes, which runs across all channels including stores, and means a vastly simplified promotions management process for business staff, and consistent offers and experience for customers.

The scalable architecture has been designed to support over a million page impressions per hour with very high conversion rates for the extremely high peaks of customer demand during sales, such as the three crazy day sales.

Pieter Heij, director of multi-channel at de Bijenkorf, said: “We are now thrilled to offer our customers a seamless multi-channel experience across all devices, on a robust platform. We have seen a 50% improvement in site performance and an immediate uplift in sales following the launch of our new website. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Javelin Group and we have already engaged the team for ongoing and future work.”

Fraser Davidson, CTO and director of technology services at Javelin Group, said: “de Bijenkorf was looking for a high performance ecommerce solution, which integrated tightly with their existing systems, supported the high levels of customer traffic at peak times, and offered a seamless customer experience across all channels. We are delighted that de Bijenkorf is now enjoying remarkable improvements in performance, following our successful delivery of this complete ecommerce website project.”
