Team profile – Lydia
After graduating with a degree in Modern Languages, I spent a year working for a small textiles retailer as the sales and marketing coordinator. I was confident that I wanted to work in retail, but unsure in what capacity. After realising that my favourite part of the job was finding answers to questions about the company’s direction, I decided to apply to Javelin Group.
Why did you choose to apply for Javelin Group?
It was Javelin Group’s specialism in retail, along with the calibre of past clients, which initially attracted me to the firm. However, as I researched the company more, I was keen to work in a company where I could be a valuable team member from the start and where I would be supported as I developed new skills – Javelin Group seemed to offer just that.

What are the best aspects of your job?
For me, the atmosphere in the office, and the camaraderie within the team are what make Javelin Group a great place to work. The office seating plan of large tables shared by colleagues of all levels leads to a collaborative environment where it is encouraged to ask for help and to share ideas/advice/snacks.
Do you have any advice for applicants?
Having come from an arts background, I would advise candidates in a similar position to make sure they practice case studies aloud before the interviews. These can be a daunting part of the interview process, but they really do get better with time! Aside from that, make sure to get on top of the current retail news and try to establish your own opinions on what is happening in the industry.
