What work will you do?

You will be given responsibility from day one, participate in all aspects of a project, have unrivaled client contact, and help to make a visible difference to some of the world’s largest and most dynamic companies. You will gain experience of our different types of work and gather the suite of skills required of a first-class strategy consultant.

Our retail and digital strategy projects can involve, for example, setting out the omni-channel vision of a major UK retailer, defining new retail propositions, finding the latest innovations in food business models, or developing a roadmap for international expansion. Our focus is to help our clients be as successful as they can be.

Typically you will work as part of a 2-3 person team on projects ordinarily lasting 6-12 weeks. You will make a real contribution, undertaking extensive analysis, developing sections of the work and being involved in client presentations.

Omni-channel retail strategic transformation

omni-channel_retail_transformationJavelin Group worked with a large American department store to define its omni-channel retail strategy. The project consisted of two phases. Phase 1 focused on analysing the current situation across range, price, online experience, cross-channel experience and marketing, and defining the future strategic vision. Phase 2 identified the key operational, technological and organisational enablers of the strategic vision and its financial implications. An omni-channel retail strategic transformation project typically takes 12 weeks to complete and includes contributions from the Strategy, Operations and Technology Consulting practices.

An associate consultant in the Strategy team will typically be given ‘ownership’ of specific sections of the project, with support from the project manager.

eCommerce proposition evaluation

Javelin Group worked with a major UK electricals retailer to assess user experience across desktop, tablet and smartphone using Javelin Group’s detailed user experience audit. Results were benchmarked against four key competitors and international best practice.

An associate consultant in the Strategy team will typically be responsible for:

  • Identifying best practice customer experience examples
  • Presenting key conclusions from audit and best practice examples on PowerPoint

Commercial due diligence

This involved a detailed evaluation of the target including an evaluation of the direction of the industry, the target’s historical financial performance, and review of its business performance.

An associate consultant in the Strategy team will typically be responsible for:

  • Assessing the effectiveness of digital marketing activity using programmes such as Google Analytics
  • Supporting a senior consultant/manager during customer interviews
  • Conducting a proprietary audit of the target and a store retail proposition audit
