Project Manager

The project manager is responsible for developing, in conjunction with the project sponsor, a definition of the project. The project manager ensures that the project is delivered on time, to budget and to the required quality standard (within agreed specifications). He/she ensures the project is effectively resourced and manages relationships with a wide range of groups (including all project contributors).

Additionally the project manager is responsible for managing the work of consultants/third parties, allocating and utilising resources in an efficient manner and maintaining a co-operative, motivated and successful team.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Effective communication to the client for all aspects of the project including:
    • Project status reporting to working group and steering group
    • Financial reporting
  • Internal communication and reporting to:
    • Javelin Group senior management on project status and financials
    • Project team members
  • Being aware of impact of communication internally and externally and ensuring that correct and appropriate information is delivered to all recipients every time in a professional manner.
  • Ensuring the team are motivated and working together to deliver a successful project
  • Creation and maintenance of the Javelin Group internal project tools


  • Taking responsibility for overall delivery of the project
  • Ensuring that everyone is working towards a successful project delivery and knows what is required from them
    • Making client aware of project risks even if these are not within the Javelin Group deliverable
  • Leading and managing the project team
  • Detailed project planning and control including:
    • Developing and maintaining a detailed project plan
    • Managing project deliverables in line with the project plan
    • Recording and managing project risks and issues and escalating where necessary. Ensuring these are actively monitored and resolved
    • Resolving cross-functional issues at project level
    • Ensuring that the project team are working on the correct tasks (including jiras)
    • Managing project scope and change control and escalating issues where necessary
    • Managing project progress and performance
  • Definition and management of the transition plan including implementation
  • Ensuring a realistic test strategy is defined and implemented
  • Working closely with the technical architect and business analyst to ensure that the solution meets the client’s technical and functional requirements
  • Building good working relationships with the client management team
  • Ownership and management of the project financial plan and working to maintain the project margin
  • Ensuring that Javelin Groups internal processes are adhered to:
    • Invoices are raised and issued on time
    • Project admin is completed
    • Timesheets are recorded accurately
  • Definition and management of the User Acceptance Testing programme
  • Coordination of the project team members and ensuring that meetings are planned, attended and that minutes and actions are recorded and issued
  • Having an excellent understanding of Javelin Group culture and ensuring customer is prioritised
  • Working with colleagues to provide continuous improvement to internal and delivery processes

Essential Experience and Knowledge

  • Has successfully delivered retail system solutions and associated technologies
  • Has experience of managing full life cycle development (design, development, testing and implementation)
  • Experience of working in a consultancy environment
  • Being responsible for and managing project budgets up to £1M

Desirable Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience of running large teams to deliver ecommerce solutions
  • Experience of running all phases of multiple ecommerce projects

  • Excellent communication skills – must have experience of communicating up to Board level within a client organisation
  • Excellent English, both verbal and written

Desirable Skills and Attributes

  • Has previously worked for a retailer
  • Has a background in business analysis or development

Essential Education and Qualifications

Degree level educated

Desirable Education and Qualifications

Prince 2 qualified, PMP, experience of Agile
