Project manager

Javelin Group has a strong technology team. The work with clients divides into advisory services (technology consulting) and application development. The consulting team advises retailers on IT and application strategy, package selection and project, programme and change management. The application development team designs, builds and delivers bespoke retail solutions, based on both Java and Microsoft platforms. Projects range from major website builds (B&Q, Woolworths, Screwfix Direct) to specific retail application implementation (bid TV, Poundland, Carphone Warehouse).

Because of continued strong demand for our services (resulting in growth of 30%+ in each of the last three years) we are now looking to recruit exceptional individuals in a number of key areas.

This role manages all aspects of a project, working closely with the account director (who has overall project responsibility) and the architect (who Iis responsible for technical aspects of the project).

Principle responsibilities

Management of day-to-day client relationship and expectations, while ensuring that the project delivers to time and budget. Projects are typically 3-9 months in duration, with a mix of work on client sites and in our central London offices.

A willingness to travel and work away from home will be required.

Projects will typically be either a retail package implementation with integration to clients existing systems or a bespoke Java build. In either case management of business process design and implementation will form a key part of the role.

Training

Whilst a full induction to the company will be provided, it is anticipated that the successful candidate will have the requisite skills and experience to “hit the ground running”.

PERSON SPECIFICATION


Education

  • To honours degree level or equivalent

Work experience

  • Established project management experience, ideally in both larger and smaller companies; previous experience in client facing (i.e. consulting) environment
  • Managed several projects in the £0.1m to £2m range
  • Experience of leading development teams; experience of testing user training and documentation including user manuals and functional specifications
  • Highly numerate, good written and presentation skills

Desirable skills

  • Knowledge of development methodologies (PRINCE-2, RUP and UML very desirable)
  • Retail e-commerce experience will be a strong advantage

Personal skills

  • Confident and proactive
  • Outgoing, articulate and literate, presenting him/herself as a professional at all times
  • Self-motivated and disciplined and able to work on own initiative
  • Committed to the achievement of excellence
  • Keen to progress in the role and within Javelin Group

Test manager

The test manager will be responsible for the final quality assurance of all the projects delivered to our clients. This will involve ownership and development of our testing process and part time involvement in all projects to ensure adherence to company standards.

Principle responsibilities

The test manager will ensure that the application delivers what has been documented in the functional and non-functional specifications and it adheres to the standards agreed with the client.

The test manager will be responsible for test planning as well as test execution, either alone or with a small team of testers.

The test manager will work with the lead developer and the project manager to prioritise issue resolution and ensure successful completion of the project.

Training

PERSON SPECIFICATION


Education

  • Ideally graduate qualified with strong A/B grades at A level

Work experience

  • Established experience of functional testing in e-commerce
  • Experience of defining a testing approach
  • Experience in two or more of the following: usability, accessibility, interface, automated, browser compatibility or load/performance testing
  • Comfortable working with the client to prioritise and resolve uncovered issues
  • Experience in developing, planning and executing test strategies
  • Experience of leading a small team (2-4 people)
  • Experience of working with test tools such as JIRA and Test Director

Desirable skills

  • Established experience of functional testing in one or more of the following areas: buying and merchandising, warehouse management
  • Technical experience, such as the ability to query databases using SQL or creating XML files for dataload/interface testing, an advantage
  • Experience in project management or business analysis
